In this department, we treat patients with tumours and benign and malignant blood disorders. Firstly a diagno-sis is established by way of endoscopic methods, visual examination techniques (ultrasound, CT scintigraphy), and special analyses ofthe blood and possibly the bone marrow. Subsequently, the therapy is precisely planned. This includes infusions with special antibodies against certain types of tumours or hormone therapy and so-called growth factors for haemopoietic cells in addition to chemotherapies.

In order to maintain a high quality of life while receiving chemotherapy, we used newly developed medianes in order to suppress side effects.

The department also has a palliative unit with 8 beds. In this area, patients are treated who have advanced tumours and serious tumour-related discomfort. The purpose of the treatment is to achieve the highest pos-sible quality of life for the remaining life ofthe patient by Controlling the pain and Symptoms.
